The Design process
Dickie’s work is underpinned by a design process that involves thinking and decision making as well as visual design. Each project is approached with a fresh mindset, from initial research and concepts to the final design.
Well-considered design and clear communication
Design is not just about the purely visual, but also as importantly, how it functions. Design is required to look aesthetically pleasing and also communicate effectively - great design is a balance of form and function. I don’t design with myself or other designers in mind, I design for your clients. They are at the forefront when making creative decisions.
Discover
I listen to you and and ask questions. It is important to understand your business, where you are coming from and where you want to go so I can generate an accurate brief and start work on your project fully understanding your requirements. I ask questions like: What are the objectives? Who is your audience? And who are your main competitors?
Develop
I take the brief and work my magic. I consider the visual design, and information heirarchy, explore different possibilities, generate ideas and develop them into solutions. I constantly analyse, improve and make changes to ensure the ideas answer the brief and communicate your messages effectively while being user friendly.
Discuss
After developing the design we will have a meeting to present the ideas and have an honest discussion about all the options. It’s important at this stage for us to consider what works for you and what does not, what you like and what you do not. It may be that we go back to stage 2, but quite often from here it’s straight on to stage 4.
Deliver
I deliver, on time and on budget.. hooray! Time for a well earned cup of tea.
If it's a print job then I can arrange for printing to be done by good quality printers to ensure you get great quality print work with a great finish; if it's a website then it is published online.

I believe that long term working relationships produce the best results over time. As I get to know you and your business better I am more likely to get the design ideas right first time which will cut down the design process time and save you money in the long run. As trust builds you will be able to rely on me to deliver on time and on spec which makes for smoother, happier working relationships.
Skills
Dickie has an extensive experience in, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, he has an excellent knowledge of web based applications Dreamweaver and Flash and occasionally dabbles in code. He also uses pen and paper.
